It’s amazing how a little sunshine can just turn things around so quickly. One thing is sure, this winter has been a long grey (and sometimes white) one but that means those little rays of sunshine are even more appreciated now that they have arrived. Whether it’s the first BBQ of the season, the sun glistening into the ocean or a perfect blue sky for a bike ride, I’m taking each little moment in and making the most of it.
When life gets overwhelming, it’s easy to close off onto yourself. A lazy day of hibernation can sometimes be a good thing but if I’ve learned anything – reaching out to friends can be a good way to get a smile back on my face. During those times, I will make an effort to go out to that birthday party or call a girlfriend for an impromptu tea and croissant. Before I know it, I feel much better.
PS – bringing balloons to that said birthday party always gets extra smiles!
The April showers are certainly persisting until the end. This means, we have to be more creative about finding our own sunshine – an excellent skill to have if you’re a Vancouverite! Whether, it is inside a tulip or around a table filled with foods and surrounded by friends, take your pick and enjoy! May flowers are just around the corner.
Rain, cloud, rain, sun (!!), wind, rain…. and repeat. April is turning out to be a bit all over the place – kind of like me actually as it is a busy month. There’s been a couple time when I’ve gotten overwhelmed but I need to keep reminding myself to stop, take a breath, smile and go on… Even with all the craziness these days, I don’t want to miss out on those beautiful perfect little moments – whether it’s randomly finding the perfect card for a friend or that little ray of sunlight that came out on a grey day at just the right moment.
Welcome to Spring friends! I always feel that as soon as the days get a bit longer and the sun has deigned to come out even just a couple times, people are more willing to smile ( or maybe it’s just my very silly rain helmet?!) Whatever the reason, I’m loving the smiles back this week so keep them coming!
Sometimes the smiles I see are subtle and may only make me smile, a burgeoning tree or a fun set of brooches (I get it – it’s not for everyone) but sometimes I’m know for a fact everyone else is smiling too. When I went for a walk the other day, I found a bright yellow smiley face – now don’t tell me you’re not smiling right now!!
And the time continues to fly by! How does this happen? How can it be halfway into summer already? We’ve been so busy getting away from the city, I don’t even know where July went!
Over the last week, I was lucky to get out of town on not one but 2 mini trips. There’s nothing quite like getting out of the city to recharge and enjoy the summer. This was exactly what I needed!
My sister’s wedding was last weekend. It was a beautiful day full of love, family and friends. In the mist of having my parents in town and helping with the preparation, I had to make sure I took some time to slow down and enjoy the fact that my baby sister was getting married. I took a couple afternoons off for quality time with family and spent the day before the wedding with my sister to take in each little moment. It’s hard to not get caught up in the to-do lists and last minute details but my favourite time was our family dinner the night before. We all sat down and enjoyed one of Moe’s specialty, beer-butt chicken. I’ll have to share the recipe one of these days but for now, enjoy this week’s smiles!
There’s nothing more relaxing than getting out of town for a few days, turning off the phone and just taking in what the day brings you. This is exactly what Moe and I did recently when we headed out to Bowen Island for a couple nights. Tucked away in a little cabin, enjoying a nice glass of wine and some cheese, what a difference a short 20 minute ferry ride can do! A few hikes, some mid-day naps and a nice dinner on a patio, we came back to Vancouver recharged and full of smiles.
