About a year ago now, I started this blog to share my project, Smiling at Strangers. I never thought what I did was a big deal or could be of interest to people but my husband suggested I write about it. I like to write and so I thought “why not?”.
Having this blog reminded me each week to enjoy the little moments and gave me an outlet to share them, hopefully putting a smile on another stranger’s face. In those few months, I found a voice and opened up my world; I met incredible people and was inspired by them.
To be honest, I actually took all this for granted until now. And so – when I encountered people who did not understand why someone would open up to complete strangers, people who did not understand how a simple smile could make a difference, I decided to stop writing my blog.
As life would have it, friends and family started asking me why I’d stopped writing. People I did not even know had read my blog told me they were actually enjoying my tidbits on happiness. Who knew? Writing a blog was such a small gesture but people appreciated it. It was my small contribution to the world, a small encouragement to smile and care for each other.
An so friends – I decided to start writing again. I may only be one but this is how I make a difference – by sharing a few smiles each week and hoping someone on the other side receives them. It’s not much but you gotta start somewhere, right?
I am only one but still,
I am one.
I cannot do everything but still,
I can do something.
And because I cannot do everything,
I will not refuse to do something that I can do.
