5 Smiles: July 24

Over the last week, I was lucky to get out of town on not one but 2 mini trips. There’s nothing quite like getting out of the city to recharge and enjoy the summer. This was exactly what I needed!

I have to say that Moe and I are probably not the most active of couples but annually, we have a “spurt” of activity for our annual bike trip. This year, we went a little crazy and added on a hiking trip to Elfin Lake. I was not sure we were going to do it but after almost 200 km of biking around the Nanaimo area and 35km of hiking (22 of those with our big backpack!), I was pretty proud of ourselves for making it back home in one piece.

Not only did we get our exercise in but we were lucky to take in some amazing scenery. From beautiful sunset walks around departure Bay to breathtaking mountain views right outside our tent, you really have to feel grateful to be calling BC home.

What is 5 smiles?
Smiling at Strangers has taught me to be present in the little moments of my life and appreciate the beauty that surrounds me each and every day. Every week, I share 5 moments in pictures that might seem small but have made me smile. Hopefully it inspires you to appreciate the little things too.
